I made this recipe to go with my baked apples. Honestly, it was probably cheaper then buying a caramel sauce from the store, just as good AND just as easy! Feel free to add sea salt if you want a sweet and salty sauce. This recipe stays good in the fridge for a long time too! - I just stored it in a jar. Here is the recipe:
Caramel Sauce
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup half and half
4 tablespoons of butter
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
Mix brown sugar, half and half, butter and salt in a saucepan over medium low heat. Cook while whisking gently for approximately 7 minutes. You want it to start to thicken up. Add the vanilla and cook for a minute or two longer for it to thicken again. Remove from heat and pour into a jar once cooled. Sauce will continue to thicken as it gets colder. Serve warmed or cool.
