I love french toast, however, I always seem to have a hard time making it. It's either too egg-y or under/over cooked. Alton Brown has a fantastic recipe that will give you perfect french toast every time. These french toast turned out soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. Serve with syrup, icing sugar, whipped cream, fruit or all of the above! Check it out below:
French Toast
1 cup of half and half
3 eggs
2 tablespoons of honey, warmed in microwave for 20 seconds
1/4 teaspoon of salt
6 pieces of bread
Optional: 1 tablespoon of cinnamon
In a pyrex dish, whisk together half and half, eggs, honey and salt (and optional cinnamon) until combined.
Preheat oven to 375°F. Dip bread into mixture, allow to soak for 30 seconds per side. Remove and place onto cooling rack that is sitting on top of a baking sheet. Allow to sit for at least 1 minute to have excess egg drip off.
Over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter into a pan. Place 2 slices of bread at a time into the pan and allow to cook for 2-3 minutes per side. Remove from pan and place back onto cooling rack that is on top of your baking sheet. Place all pieces of bread into the oven for 5 minutes. Serve immediately.
